Report after 12 years of long-term system comparison at bioRe India

The bioRe® Foundation is a FIBL partner for the SysCom program (long-term system comparison of cropping systems) in India, focusing on cotton-based cropping systems.

Over a 12-year period (2007-2019), production of cotton, soybean, and wheat was compared in a two-year rotation, in the 4 cropping systems: organic, biodynamic, conventional, and conventional with genetically modified Bt cotton.

Studies conducted in temperate climates (mainly in Europe) have demonstrated the advantages of organic farming methods over conventional practices. However, some questions remain about the performance of biological systems under tropical conditions.

The SysCom program addresses this research gap in three tropical countries (Kenya, India and Bolivia) and consists of Long-Term Experiments (LTE) and Participatory On-farm Research (POR). The main partner in the implementation of the LTE and POR in India is the bioRe® Association India.
